This month I thought it would be good to share an update on the success of TCPIx, our multi cultural image bank which is available FREE to download on our website under the Downloads tab.
As you may know TCPix was created with a grant from the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and Small Good Stuff. TCPix is a library of black and white line drawings, the images are sorted into categories which include Items of clothing, everyday objects and food and drink amongst others.
The current bank focuses more on the Pakistani, English and Bangladeshi communities but we hope to continue to develop the resource and in turn help toward enabling others to support understanding and choice in a more culturally sensitive way.
When we launched the images we were hopeful that they would be of use to Speech and Language therapists, other professionals, family members and support staff. We have been overwhelmed by the positive response and would like to share some of the areas of practice that have requested the images and some of the feedback we have had.
We had requests from far and wide including from the North; Oldham, Rochdale, Clitheroe, Harrogate and Swinton. Requests from the South came from places such as Sussex, London, Kensington, Chelsea, Renfrewshire and Brent to name a few. We also had international requests from Australia, Ghana, Rwanda and Uganda!
The images have been requested by a wide variety of settings and distributed extensively to places including various NHS trusts, schools, Universities, colleges, Hospital units for stroke and brain injury, specialist and independent speech therapists, mental health team, Adult social care, Intermediary work (court/ justice) and health education. Some of the feedback we have had via email includes these snippets;
"I work as a speech therapist for the National Autistic Society and this would be a really useful resource for us. We always struggle to find appropriate images to use with our students who are from different backgrounds".
"These are fantastic resources and all in one place".
"Thank you SO much Shahnaz - really appreciate your generosity!"
"I would like to congratulate you on your brilliant set of culturally appropriate line drawings!"
"Many thanks for all the useful pictures and information Shahnaz".
"Have sent this on to about 50 people across the world!"
"Hi I just heard about your awesome multi-cultural image bank. I would be really interested
in using them at work".
